The Oswego Baseball and Softball Association Travel Baseball Program was created by Oswego Baseball and Softball Association PONY Baseball to provide a higher level of competition beyond its in-house recreational program for talented and motivated baseball players who are willing to commit a great deal of time to improvement of their skills in a team focused environment.

Some Common Questions:

Eligibility:  To be eligible to participate in OBSA Travel Division Baseball, you must reside within the boundaries of Oswego School District #308 for 13U and under. Boundary is open for 14U and above.

Selection Process:   Each age bracket will hold separate tryouts in mid to late July.  Player evaluations will consist of a multi-day process for each age bracket.  Tryouts will be used to evaluate player abilities in the areas of fielding, hitting, throwing and base running in a controlled setting.  Upon completion of the second tryout, coaches will identify those players whom they would like to select for their respective teams.  Selected players will be called within 48-72 hours of the final tryout.

Player Expectations:  If selected to a Travel team, players are expected to attend all practices and games (individual circumstances will be taken care of with respective managers), arrive at games dressed and ready to play, conduct themselves with good sportsmanship at all times, positive baseball attitude and be willing to listen, learn and implement what is being taught.

Season:  Travel baseball teams develop during the entire year.  Most teams begin a light practice schedule in the fall and go to a regular once or twice a week practice schedule starting in January.  Our Travel game season runs April to July.  Each individual Manager determines the amount of games and tournaments a team will participate.  Each team will play a minimum of 30 games.

Costs:  Costs for 9U-14U teams are estimated to be in $1,200.00 to $1,500.00 range.  Finalized costs will be published prior to the selection of teams.  High School level teams (15U & up) will pay OBSA operating fees (approximately $140.00) and budgets will be determined by respective team managers based on need and tournaments.  First installment of $400 is due upon acceptance to the team.  Remaining amounts due will be broken into three equal installments due October 1, November 1 and February 1.  Player fee includes costs such as:  Uniforms, Field House and Batting Cage Rental, Field Maintenance Costs, League Scheduling, Umpires, Tournament Team Fees, Batting Helmet, Bat Bag, Miscellaneous Team Equipment, and 3rd Party Team Instruction.  What this does not include: Traveling expenses, personal equipment, personal expenses, etc. Fundraising and sponsorship opportunities are available to reduce player fees.

Other Questions:  If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact Shaun Currer, OBSA’s VP of Travel at (630) 523-3451 or [email protected].
